Renewing knowledge and revitalizing interest in traditional costumes, fishing, farming, crafts, and other aspects of local historical culture.
Policy plan
The policy for Museum Spakenburg is laid out in the 2023-2027 Policy Plan. This policy plan outlines the vision and mission as follows:
Mission and vision
For the coming policy period 2023-2027, the museum's mission has been formulated as follows:
Using its own collection, Museum Spakenburg aims to bring the history and culture of the municipality of Bunschoten to life in an engaging way, showcasing, exploring, and experiencing the connection residents have with their surroundings, both past and present. This is achieved through presentations and demonstrations that inspire tourists and residents of the municipality of Bunschoten.
This mission contains three core aspects:
1. the cultural-historical aspect;
2. the way in which the information is conveyed, namely through experience and presentation (seeing, hearing, knowing, feeling);
3. the museum aspect.
Ad 1. The connection not only indicates 'stuckness' but also expresses love and devotion. Getting to know something represents the educational task, and experiencing it represents the experience. The museum aims to convey to visitors the unique character of the municipality of Bunschoten, as well as the interdependence of elements in daily life and professions. The stories about traditional costumes, farm life, fishing, fish smoking and tanning, and the entrepreneurial spirit of the people form the connection between the past and the present.
Ad 2. People who experience things retain knowledge better and remember a museum visit fondly. It's about experiencing and experiencing things as a way to convey the desired knowledge and information.
Ad 3. The third component concerns the museum aspect. Museum Spakenburg is at the heart of society and brings topics closer to visitors. The internationally agreed-upon code of conduct for museum ethics (ICOM definition) serves as the starting point and standard. Properly managing and accessing the collection, and making it available to the public, is a fundamental requirement for everything the museum undertakes.
The complete policy plan is included here.
Remuneration Policy: The Museum Foundation strives to achieve its objectives and the associated policy plan with a small team of professionals and volunteers. Remuneration, other than for demonstrably incurred expenses for the foundation, is not provided. However, volunteers may receive compensation, which does not exceed the legally permitted volunteer allowances. The museum also adheres to the Cultural Governance Code.
The museum's activities are described in an Annual Report. This annual report is available on the website.
